Kauai Hawaii Wedding Reception

Kauai Hawaii Wedding Reception option.

By Mark Steffan

Most of our weddings are small and the couple or small group go to a restaurant or perhaps a luau. However there are those that require a bit more. When on the Island of Kauai one should consider the Hukilau Lani. Being located in Kapaa makes it close for many destination wedding couples. It is close to the airport and many of the resorts and condo’s on the Eastern shore.  It is about a 45 minute drive for most of those staying on the South shore in Koloa and Poipu or for those in Hanalai and Princeville on the North shore. What it offers is privacy in their Banquet Room which is perfect for a wedding group from 20 to 75+ guests. Hukilau Lanai Banquet Room(get your free wedding guide)

Hukilau Lanai Dance FloorThe private banquet room is available as early as 5:00pm. Guest departure must be no later than 10:30pm. The room rental includes, tables, chairs, built-in dance floor, linens, table skirting, and candles for centerpiece. A dedicated sound system is also included in the Private Banquet Room fee, featuring a 5-disc cd player, i-pod capabilities, or Hawaiian Music provided by Hukilau Lanai. They have a cordless microphone available for $50 rental fee. They do allow for DJ service and dancing during the wedding reception, in the full private banquet room. They recommend a maximum of 75 guests if you are planning to have dance floor space available for the reception or entertainment.

They also have a less expensive option a smaller Semi-private Banquet Room that is available for smaller groups. The room seats a maximum of 25 guests. The Semi-private room is designed for served style dinner only. The room does not accommodate Buffet dinners, DJ’s, or dancing.

One can have the wedding on the property or can do it at a nearby beach. The Wedding Ceremony location is on the coastline and overlooks the ocean with a beautiful mountain range in the background.   Please be aware that the grounds are not lit at night other than by torch light, so outdoor ceremonies are appropriate until sundown.

Hukilau Lanai Wedding SiteThe ceremony fee includes the set-up and break-down of 20 white chaivari chairs.  Please let us know if would like chairs for the ceremony and the specific number of chairs requested.  If your group requires more than 20 chairs, additional ceremony chairs are available at $2 per chair (up to 75 chairs available). Other decorations and even tenting is available. These additional facts apply to the wedding grounds:

Rain or Shine:    The ceremony location is outdoors and is not a covered area.  In the chance of rain or bad weather, Hukilau Lanai does not provide tents or coverage.
Tenting/ coverage is allowed at the site, but must be arranged in advance from an outside vendor.  Showers tend to pass quickly on Kauai, allowing the ceremony to resume shortly after.  In the event that the stormy weather and rain does not pass, Hukilau Lanai is not responsible for a back-up rain contingency plan.

Please note that if you have already reserved the Semi-private or Private Banquet Room, the space would be available as a back-up plan for rain or weather, with a few adjustments made to the wedding reception timeline.

Music/ Microphone:    Hukilau Lanai does not provide a sound system or microphone at the ceremony location.  PA systems and necessary extension cords should be provided by the guest, hired musician, or officiant.

Recorded or live music must match the resort ambiance and be approved by Hukilau Lanai management. The decibel level must be in accordance with the Kauai County residential sound ordinance.

Decorations/Wedding Arch: Must be approved, in advance, by Hukilau Lanai management. Wedding arches are allowed, but not provided by Hukilau Lanai.  Arches must not puncture the lawn area or underground water sprinkler system.

Break-Down Time:    Décor must be removed from the ceremony site within 2 hours of the ceremony ending time.  We do not allow wedding arches to remain overnight.

On-site Wedding Rehearsal:  There is no additional cost/fee involved to hold an unsupervised wedding rehearsal with your bridal party on the Kauai Coast Resort Lawn prior to the wedding day.  However, we do require that wedding rehearsal time be approved by Hukilau Lanai management to assure that there are no conflicting events taking place at that time.

Smoking:    Smoking is allowed in designated outdoor areas only 50 feet away from the Resort buildings.
